What fast food joint do you like the best, and why?

I really like Arby's--I love their roast beef sandwiches, their potato cakes, their curly fries, and their shakes aren't bad. But I also love Sonic (which my husband does NOT appreciate), because they serve breakfast all day long, and their orange cream slush and apple juice slush are SO yummy, especially in the summertime.

Halloween

Here we are at the ward trunk or treat. Adam is Elmo, Kip is Tigger, and I am being lame by dressing the fool. The boys filled their buckets of candy in the first 30 minutes we were there. Since they did not have the cake walk ready we went home. It was fun though.

Dinner

Now doesn't that look good. This is the dinner I made for our anniversary last Thursday. Caren surprized me by buying the ingredients. It was so nice to have an oven big enough to fit the pan. It still is good, as I am eating left-overs or my lunch today.

Hi family David and I want to Apoligize for not going on the blogg in forever.
I dont get on the internet much however David has no exscuse he is on all the time. Well I wanted to let you all know David has finally gotten a great job and he starts on monday. He is going to be working as a computer programer for a company that does DMV school online.
Arabella is walking alot now she is all over the place! She also is talking alot.
Ephram is using more words and he has his worker come out once a week and a speach therapist every two weeks.
Skyler is doing a great job of driving all the adults crazy.

I am so excited that Katie is rolling it seems like she was just born.

Interesting cancer scan study

This story is about a scan that is like a mammogram, only it is for lung cancer. The study recently conducted had good results, but unfortunately the study itself is flawed statistically because there was no control group. (Incidentally, do you know where I first remember learning what a control group is? It wasn't science class in school, or a textbook, it was reading The Rats of Nimh. How funny is that?) Anyway, even if the study is flawed, it's something to keep an eye on--no doubt someone will try to construct a study that is similiar but addresses the problems.

The latest book I read was Dead of Night which was a pretty good mystery in which I did not guess the murderer. It was enjoyable. I am currently rereading a Mary Higgins Clark. You are right, Caren, Two Little Girls in Blue was a good book. It was given to my for my birthday by some wonderful people.

Disneyland

So, most of you are aware that LaDale and I went to Disneyland last week. We (really LaDale) thought it would be fun to post a picture of us on the blog. So here it is. As you know, I am not much of a picture person but the man we asked to take this was pretty good.
As for the book I am currently reading, I am reading Treasure by Clive Cushler and The Cinco De Mayo Murder and I can't remember who wrote that but it is the newest Holiday murder in that series.

THE CURTAIN RODS

She spent the first day packing her belongings into boxes, crates, and suitcases.

On the second day, she had the movers come and collect her things.

On the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining room table by candlelight, put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar, and a bottle of chardonnay.

When she had finished, she went into each and every room and stuffed half-eaten shrimp shells dipped in caviar into the hollow of all of the curtain rods.

She then cleaned up the kitchen and left.

When the husband returned with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days. Then, slowly, the house began to smell. They tried everything: cleaning, mopping, and airing the place out. Vents were checked for dead rodents, carpets were steam cleaned, and air fresheners were hung everywhere!

Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which they had to move out for a few days, and in the end they even paid to replace the expensive wool carpeting. Nothing worked. People stopped coming over to visit. Repairmen refused to work in the house.

The maid quit. Finally, they could not take the stench any longer and decided to move.

A month later, even though they had cut their price in half, they could not find a buyer for their stinky house. Word got out, and, eventually, even the local Realtors refused to return their calls. Finally, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place.

The ex-wife called the man and asked how things were going. He told her the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely and said that she missed her old home terribly and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back.

Knowing his ex-wife had no idea how bad the smell was, he agreed on a price that was about 1/10 of what the house had been worth, but only if she were to sign the papers that very day. She agreed, and, within the hour, his lawyers delivered the paperwork.

A week later, the man and his girlfriend stood smiling as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home, including the curtain rods.

So here is my input on the QOTW. Caren and I are currently reading Harry Potter 5. I am personally reading several books for my classes, the least of which is Quantum Mechanics. And I am reading a text book as a personal study on Solid State Physics. Beyond those related in some way or other to school I am also reading a little of the Lord of the Rings, Two Towers, for the first time in my life. There you have it. All the fun books that I am looking into right now.

QOTW

I am currently reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It's taking me a rather long time to read it, but not because it isn't interesting. I just haven't felt very motivated to read...I think I'm addicted to the computer. I need to spend less time on it. Anyway, so that's what I'm reading right now.

As for other news, Katy rolled over yesterday!! Three times actually. From her front to her back. I kept putting her on her tummy, determined to have her do some tummy time and she kept rolling over. It was so cute.

And our extra bedroom is FINALLY getting new carpet tomorrow, which means Tyler and I can move in there and get our own room again. I seriously can't wait. Even though Katy is sleeping through the night most of the time now, I still wake up to her every whimper and sigh. I'm excited to get a good night of sleep again, at least every once in a while.

Wrestling

I watched the cutest wrestling match today. You can see it for yourself here if you have a recent version of QuickTime. If you don't watch the video, trust me; my kids are cute.

Of course, the whole scene ended in tears moments after the video clip ends, but that's about par for the course, right?

Yay! A question of the week! This one is easy, too--thanks, Caren!

I'm currently reading (not very fast, because I have a LOT I'm doing right now) "No Apparent Danger" by Victoria Bruce. It's a nonfiction book about the volcanic disaster at Galeras in 1996 and the volcanic disaster at Colombia del Ruiz in 1985. It's a very good book; I read it back in 2000 when it came out, but haven't read it since.

Yesterday Brad and I went out to dinner for our anniversery (P.F. Chang's, yum yum) and then went to the BYU library to pick something up that I needed. We ended up hanging out in the stacks for quite a little while, just browsing. It was really REALLY fun to go to a big library without kiddos hanging on. Brad's promised me that when I'm done with my current projects I can check out whatever books I want from BYU Library. That will be really nice when we are in the hospital this Christmastime.

So what is everyone going to be for Halloween? I'm going to be Blue, Brad is going to be Joe (or Steve), and the kids are going to be Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper. We'll post pictures, since we have a Halloween party on David's birthday and a ward party on Halloween. Busy busy time!

The last one i've read, i just finished last week. It's "two little girls in blue". I must say it was great! I enjoyed reading it. Mary Higgins Clark has done it again.

Speaking of handcarts, don't forget that the Maxwells came across in the second handcart group (Willie and Martin were the third and fourth). Just another claim to fame.

Angels coming for us

My stake put on a performance of a musical entitled "1856 the Musical." It was to commemorate and honor the faith and courage of the handcart pioneers. It was well done. I mean it was an amateur production and I had trouble hearing the choir but you could tell they worked very hard. There was an orchestra complete with percussion, mostly young men and women and all the actors and chorus in costumes. Their back drop was gorgeous. Someone did a nice job with a paintbrush and some paints.
We followed the story of two families, friends from England, in their journey to Salt Lake. One family is in the first handcart company to arrive in Salt Lake. The other followed in either the Willie or Martin company (they never said which for sure.) I cried as first the youngest daughter and then the next daughter dies. Soon after the mother passes also and the father tells the rescuers at the banks of the Sweetwater River to take care of his boys because he knows he is also dying. Tears are streaming down my face and then I crash back to earth. The only jarring point in the whole show- the mother comes back, all dressed in white to reach out her hand to her husband!!! I am sorry but is was just too much of a cheesy reminder of the Manti pageant. I did not have a problem during the finale to see the mother and father and the two little girls come out in white to sing the final song- that was fine- but it was just too much to have the little added moment when the father is passing for her to come. Enough with the angel's already.

p.s. Not that I doubt our loved ones will be there to greet us, it just took away from the drama of the scene for me instead of adding to it.

Otherwise- two thumbs up!

Happy 1st birthday to the cutest Lillian in the family! And happy happy happy birthday to her wonderful mother. I hope today is a great day (with the big Roy family party for Great-Grandma and all) and I hope that this year will be the best ever!

new diagnosis

so after being told by the family doctor that nothing was showing up and therefore he didn't know how to treat it. i made an appointment with the gynecologist in hopes of finding more out. Boy did i ever he listened to me and my symptoms and he told me he thought it was interstitial cystitis {IC} and set me up with potassium test todetermine if i was or not. It was.

IC if you will for short is basically that lining that is supposed to protect my bladder wall is damaged. This allows me to feel discomfort. Basically i've had a ton of uti's/ kidney infections this like 6 or 7 this year really on which antibiotics were of no help. It felt like a big fat infection growing in confidence since july when every test showed no sign of infection. It's long term and i basically have to take a pill 3 times a day {for at least the next 6 months} and go in twice a week for rescue medicine for 3 weeks and then one a week for another 4 weeks., which is given through a catheter. That's always fun plus i really have to watch what i eat, because it can flare up and is considered long term. So there you all have it it has a name thank goodness and is trreatable though i really wouldn't say curable.

i'm specifically putting this on the blog for the women in this family {men can get it too but, more likely it is women in child bearing years who get more than 2 uti's a year.

oh and to top things off i found out that that cranberry juice that is really helpful in getting rid of uti's is the opposite when it comes to having {ic}. To quote the nurse who tested me for it. "Drinking cranberry juice when you have IC is like adding gasoline to a fire" If i had only known. I was making it worse by trying to make it better. OOps! Harvest Hurrah

Saturday was the 2nd Annual Harvest Hurrah here in the great city of Spanish Fork. It was, of course, held at "our" park, and, contrary to forecasts, the weather could not have been better. It was delightful during the daytime, crisp at dusk, and cold at night. There were pony rides (incredibly long lines, we declined), "bobbing" for apples (with a blindfold and a ladle), music games (Ezra won a train whistle at a cake-walk-type thing), a little hay maze for the kids (definitely the favorite with my kiddos), hay rides around the block with live fiddle music (Ezra and Mercy loved this so much, Ezra threw a temper tantrum when we had to get off), free dinner (long lines, we had our own dinner across the street in our cozy house), a melodrama (didn't get to see it), and live local bands and dancing in the evening.


When Telima saw them setting up for the event on Friday, she remarked that Spanish Fork does so many cool things, it reminded her of Stars Hollow (Star Hollow? Anyway, that town that the Gilmore Girls takes place in). I've only seen one full episode of that show, so I don't know, but I do know that I love this town! What a great place to live, especially when the kids are at the age to enjoy it.

Welcome the snow

After I wrote that post yesterday about the rain, I just had to get back on-line and tell you about our snow. October 10th and there be snow here. The following pictures were taken this morning. "Oh the weather outside is frightful- I mean delightful!"

Rain, rain come and stay

The different between a summer rain and an autumn rain.

Summer rain is wildly swift from thick, fat clouds. It is deafeningly loud with thunder and lightening. It is refreshingly cool and makes you want to run out and get sopping wet but it is over as suddenly as it began with following sunshine.

Autumn rain is unceasing under a layer of gray mist. It comes and stays and stays and stays, seeping up to coat your skin and freeze your toes and fingers. It makes you want to stay inside with a good book and a hot drink, bundle up in bulky sweaters and huddle under thick quilts.

I love the rain.

New Job

Well, Jeff has a new job as of today. It's been a little of an up and down experiance. This offer has been about four months in the making. However, we are thrilled that we are finally able to officially announce that Jeff Has A New JOB!!! We are all going out tonight to celebrate. We also are very glad that our little peanut is soon to be a whole year old. She is standing up all over, even if she is not quite sure yet how to get down. I'll post more about all of that next week. Love ya all!

RE: Royalty

No kidding! My favorites were the "King So-and-so the Blind" or "King So-and-so the Old". If I ever become a queen, I'll be Queen Keryn the Partially-Sighted-and-Poorly-Teethed. What do you think?

And as far as I know, if it's a great-grandparent, it's a direct line. Apparently not the line of the heirs, though, or I would be Duchess Keryn--as long as I didn't marry someone above me in the peerage, because then I would be Lady Boot or something (grin).

It's too bad I'm suspicious of all the royalty connections. Makes you wonder if they really are true. For whatever reason, I'm more confident in the other connections--although who knows how many of them are true. At least we know that Glenn L. Pace really is related to us!

Are you kidding? My favorite part was all the royalty we are related to. It is a true statement that we are european mongrels. Frankly, forgetting all those aunts, cousins, etc- there were tons of 'so many' great great grandparents. Is that a direct line or something? Do we have a crown or something in there?

happy birthday adam!!!!

i'd just like to say happy birthday to my adorable 3 year old! We celebrated with cup cakes and cousins yesterday. It's a good thing too because adam woke up today with a fever of 103. But he had so much fun yesterday!
