A Garden Party

Today was our Relief Society's annual summer breakfast. We held it in the backyard of one of the oldest houses in the ward (and in the city, for that matter)--it was absolutely beautiful, surrounded by tall cedars and pines, with abundant roses and peonies. The theme of the event was "Sacred Family Ordinances", and we had the sisters in the ward bring bridal portraits and wedding gowns, engagement pictures and blessing dresses. Almost everyone was wearing a hat, pearls, or gloves--it was a garden party, after all.

It was an amazing morning. We had wedding dresses from the 1930s and 1940s, all the way up to the present. Amazing pictures of bright, beautiful girls and their dashing, uniformed WWII husbands. Gorgeous, hand beaded and crocheted blessing dresses. Veils and hats and don't forget the delicious food...and a loving Heavenly Father holding back the rain for just long enough for us to set up, have the party, and get everything back undercover. Oh, and the flies, alarmingly omnipresent during setup, disappeared during the event. We were truly blessed.
