Re: Sand Smuggling

As far as Hawaii goes, it's actually not illegal unless it is from a national park (all sample taking in national parks is tightly regulated). However, there is a legend/myth that if you take rocks or sand from Hawaii, Pele will curse you. The post office on the Big Island receives a ton of rocks yearly from people trying to "escape" the curse.

Seeing how I brought back an entire suitcase load of rocks, sand, and other geological stuff from Hawaii in 2000, and got happily married in 2001 and had four adorable children since, a wonderful house, a fabulous van, and an all-around marvelous life...

...I totally believe the legend.

However, if you can't bring back sand, that is totally okay. Or if you are afraid of curses.
