Beach Sand

Is it legal to take sand from Taiwan and bring it home? I seem to remember hearing something about taking sand from Hawaii, I think, and that being illegal. But, if I can, and possibly smuggle it in, I will get you some official Taiwan dirt, I mean, sand.
