Random melange of stuff
I've been giving the QOTW far too much thought...my favorite Disney/cartoon character? If you say "favorite Disney cartoon character", I would have to say either Sebastain the crab or Belle or Elasta-girl (Helen Parr). If you say "favorite Disney ORcartoon character, then you have to consider both non-cartoon Disney characters AND non-Disney cartoon characters. So then the answer would have to include Swamp Fox (Francis Marion) and the Scarecrow, AND Pablo, Tyrone, Uniqua, Tasha, and Austin from the Backyardigans. So you see that it is a very complicated question!
Some funny things I've noticed my kids doing in the last couple of days/weeks: Mercy is getting almost too old for nursing (in my opinion), because she is starting to tug and pull at the proper place when she's hungry. I pretty much draw the line when the baby can ASK for the food, and she's getting perilously close to that. I'm trying to hold out for her first birthday so that she can switch directly to whole milk instead of the more expensive formula. But when she gets what she wants...her distressed whimpers take a distinctly triumphant tone right before she latches on. It makes me laugh.
Ezra is...well, two. Although I'm not ready to auction him off quite yet. It helps not to have a passel of other kids to deal with, too. He's learning to use the potty, and yesterday as he was sitting on his little toilet, he reached out and grabbed some magazines we had in a drawer in the bathroom and began to "read" them. He finished paging through one of them, closed it, and looked up to me: "That was a good book, Mom!" He's managed to actually use the potty twice now, and he got two strawberries (he calls them "apple-grapes". Maybe because they are red and small?) for a reward.
The other funny thing Ezra does has to do with his growing desire for control. When faced with something he doesn't want to do (like get his diaper changed, clean up his toys, etc), he plops down on the floor (on a pillow if available) and says, "I go to sleep, Mom. I go to sleep!" Of course, if you ask him if he wants to go to bed, it's an instant "NO BED!" and he hops up. But still it amuses me.
Life is fun and busy here--I'm still a-working on the thesis. We love our ward and our town and our little house and our family. And our internet connection!
