My today
My weekend was quite different from LaDale's, but it was still a good weekend. I didn't get to enjoy a violin concert last night. But I did go to the adult session of stake conference, thanks to the kind services of Telima and Tyler (thanks, guys!).
This is our third stake conference in the Spanish Fork South Stake. Our stake is large enough that we are quite crowded in our large stake center even in normal stake conferences. We were bursting the seams today--every single classroom (even the very little ones) had a cable running to it, hooked up to a TV (at least 22 of them, borrowed from various members of the stake), chairs from who-knows-where, and the fullest and warmest cultural hall I've ever been in. All in honor of our visiting General Authority: Dieter F. Uchtdorf.
What an opportunity this was! Our stake presidency, having served ten years, was released this morning, and we sustained a new stake presidency (I didn't recognize any of the names, but that's not a surprise). But it was really neat to listen to Elder and Sister Uchtdorf. They are both so warm and funny and sincere and earnest. And it was fun to listen to their accents.
Last night was so wonderful, to be able to listen without the distraction of children (is that why they have the adult session?). It is unfortunate (although I understand the important of having the presiding authority speak last) that they were the last two speakers today. It was really hard to listen. Ezra did so well for so long, but he actually had sweat dripping off his little nose, and his hair was getting curly in the heat of the cultural hall. He was getting awfully tired of being quiet, and not all the markers and ABC books were of any help. Mercy had taken a bit of a nap, but by this time she was pretty done, too.
But a few things sunk in. One of my favorite things Elder Uchtdorf said was "Endure to the end. But endure happily to the end!" I thought that was so great. Re-activation was a major theme, as was the Book of Mormon.
All told, it was a great conference. Thanks for letting me run on about it!
